The Rangers and God’s Poetic Justice
11/4/2023
Growing up, I was a Dodgers fan. I have so many fond memories of hanging out by our swimming pool with the Dodger game on the radio or just watching the game as a family after dinner. I was excited to build similar memories in my own home with my own kids. In fact, my firstborn, Jack, was born right around MLB opening day. I think there are pictures of us sitting together in the hospital room watching the Dodger game.
Then April 2023 rolled around, and the Dodgers decided to honor the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a Pride group that mocks Christians and Catholics and puts up blasphemous displays of Jesus Christ. The Dodgers received some backlash for celebrating such a hateful group. To put out the flames, they decided to hold a Faith night. Unfortunately, Dodgers, you cannot have a foot in both camps. Bud Light is still figuring this out by standing by their Dylan Mulvaney nightmare and going on a red state ad campaign to help wipe the saliva off the faces of all the fratty and out of touch rednecks they spit on. Organizations have understood this for years. In fact, sports in particular were supposed to be the thing that united us all no matter our views. You could be sitting next to someone who is your total opposite but find comradery with them because you are both cheering on the same team.
Given that the Dodgers effectively said that they hate Christians, I walked away. I’ve kept all my old Dodgers hats hoping they would repent, but of course they have not. I set out to find a new team. One that hopefully would not send me packing the way the Dodgers did. After doing some research, I discovered that the Texas Rangers were the only organization in the MLB that were not holding a Pride night at their stadium. Ironically, I found this out from an article that was written by a gay man who was trying to put them on blast for this. Who knew he would help me find my next team.
Fast forward to now. The Texas Rangers have just won the World Series. The only team in the MLB who did not offer celebrations and sacrifices to false gods just won the World Series. I am not one to look for signs from God, or read the tea leaves, but at the same time, God often uses poetry, comedy, and story in our every day lives. This is the God who gave one of the most corrupt politicians in America a name like Scott Weiner. In the book of Esther, Haman was hung on the very gallows he built to have Mordecai hung on and Mordecai was elevated to royal status. God is a God of poetic justice. He punishes the wicked and elevates the righteous.
“Sin and punishment are inseparable companions…Every man shall be sure to reap as he sows, to drink as he brews, to receive according to that he hath done in the flesh, whether good or evil, 2 Ceorinthians 5:10―as sure as the night followeth the day, a day of account will come, and God will render unto each man reward or punishment according to his works.”
John Trapp
The Dodgers, a gargantuan team with many World Series titles, choked in the playoffs, after they set up their idols and worshiped after false gods. This is not to say that the Rangers dedicated themselves to the Lord, but they at least did not whore after wickedness. The Rangers did not sell their soul like every other team in the MLB, and just let baseball be baseball, and now they are bringing home their first ever World Series title. This is also not to say that this is the reason why the Rangers won, but it certainly makes it funny. However, they did not win outside of God’s control, and it is also the thing that I think God would find hilarious. Maybe the gods of wokism didn’t hear the Dodgers struggling because they were having a bowel movement.
